Nealy holds TCU offer
When the Horned Frogs looked at their positions needs for the 2009 class, one of the glaring positions was at defensive end. The Frogs have already secured commitments from Bryant House, James Dunbar, and D.J. Yendrey and are looking for more.
Another name that has popped up on the Frogs radar is San Antonio Reagan defensive end Spencer Nealy. The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder with 4.7 speed has landed on the radar of a few teams including Baylor, Iowa State, Rice and Yale. Due to an injury Nealy hasn't been able to see as many schools as he'd hoped.
"At the beginning of the summer, due to my finger injury I didn't really go to too many camps, because I tore a tendon and had to have surgery. But I'm going to TCU tomorrow to go check out their campus and talk to them a little and I think I'm going to go to Rice sometime in the near future. Then if I can I'm going to try and attempt to fly to Iowa and go talk to Iowa St. and coach Rodgers up there. And then there's Yale but that's about it."
In fact, TCU recently offered and is pursuing Nealy the hardest of all the schools. It's no surprise they site atop his leader list.
"TCU offered me at the beginning of summer," he said. "That's why I'm checking it out tomorrow. Just to see maybe
I don't know maybe something can happen out of it."
That something just may turn out to be a commitment for the Frogs if Nealy likes what he sees. However, he may not rush into a decision just yet.
"There's a very big possibility but I don't know right now," Nealy said. " I want to keep my options open. But right now they're the top one of course. Hopefully we'll see what goes on tomorrow and who knows."
Nealy says other schools have peaked his interest along with TCU and could be options in the future.
"I really want to talk to Stanford and check them out and maybe like Baylor and Georgia Tech I talked to them awhile back during the school year but really been able to talk to them since. I'd like to go there. Michigan is a place I'd would go but I don't think I'm the type of player they're looking for. Stanford sends me letters every day, but I don't think they're allowed to call me and they missed the deadline to call me and I never got their number. They send me letter and an email giving me some login stuff but I don't know. I talked to the Baylor coach, he gave me his number. I was going to go to his camp but it's on my mom's birthday so we're going to be out of town for that. It's really unfortunate but he knows and understands."
Nealy says although the injury was a setback he is close to 100-percent and is ready for his senior season.
"I tore a tendon in my middle finger. It's nothing big at all. I just had surgery on it to put the thing back in place and I'm back to full health now and I'm lifting weights. I'm probably 100-percent. I'm ready for the season, you could say that."
