Giles picking up offers

Shreveport (LA) Evangel Christian has been a recruiting hotbed for what seems like forever. The school's football alums are among players on several of the nation's top programs each year and 2009 should be much of the same.

Two players headline the talent at Evangel in cornerback Trey Wilson and athlete Quinn Giles. While Wilson has racked up five offers his teammate Giles has racked up eight from teams such as Vanderbilt, Southern Miss, SMU, Northwestern, La. Tech, UL-Monroe, Tulane and most recently TCU.

Others such as Texas, Ole Miss, and LSU are starting to show the 5-foot-10, 185-pounder interest.

"I've got eight offers," he said. "Ole Miss, Texas, and LSU are others showing interest but that's about it right now. Hopefully LSU will come through with an offer, I'm going down to their camp soon."

Out of the schools showing interest Giles says one team has caught his eye early on.

"I like Vanderbilt," Giles said of his favorite. "I was looking on the internet at the campus and it's really nice. They have good academics and I'm wanting to major in kinesiology. The coaches seem real cool and they said I could get help with my school and that's real important. In a way I want to stay in state but it's okay if I don't."

Last week while his teammate Wilson attended the Texas camp, Giles made the short drive west to Maud where the Frogs held a mini-camp.

"Oh man, the camp was pretty nice," he said. "I like the way the coaches communicate with one another, they do it really well. The way the camp was run it was sweet, I liked all the drills. The receiver coach, Coach Anderson is the one recruiting me. He's a pretty nice guy."

Did the camp make enough of an impression for Giles to consider the Frogs among his top schools?

"I got an interest in them" he said. "They're one of my top choices."

Although the fleet athlete hauled in 68 receptions in '07, Giles says he would like a switch at the next level.

"As a receiver I got All-City and All-District," he said. "I didn't play defense that much. I'd rather play defense though at the next level. TCU is the only one who has offered me on defense as a safety."

Giles says he will attend the LSU and Alabama camps to wrap up his summer.
