South Carolina's Gilmore Heading Camping
Making forays across the border into the Carolinas to snag football talent has always been part of the recruiting plan in Knoxville. It's not an easy task these days, but one still worth the effort. One prospect in the Class of 2009 getting considerable attention from Tennessee is South Carolina's Stephon Gilmore from South Pointe high school in Rock Hill.
Gilmore (6-foot-1, 180 pounds, 4.5 40-yard dash) was likely one of the first targets to pop up on the 2009 recruiting board for the Vols, and over the last year the staff has made sure that Gilmore knows he's a top priority.
The Vols however are hardly the only big time program showing the four-star athlete 'the love' in the recruiting process though.
Most of college football's heavy-hitters in the South, such as Florida State, Alabama, Tennessee and Florida stepped up with early offers for Gilmore, and those programs have been joined this spring by the likes of Michigan and Ohio State.
With plenty of attractive opportunities in front of him Gilmore is hoping an upcoming string of camps and unofficial visits will help him sort things out.
Rivals.com rates Gilmore as a four-star prospect and one of the Top-250 overall players in the Class of 2009.
