Wilson on verge of first SEC offer
Keiron Wilson believes the big day is close. He just knows it.
The 6-foot, 175-pound safety from Mobile (Davidson), Ala., has been overshadowed a bit by teammate Gerald West, but Wilson is making a name for himself as well.
Late last night, Wilson spoke to Ole Miss assistant Ron Dickerson Jr., who recruits Mobile and the surrounding area for the Rebels.
"He was telling me he was happy I had called," Wilson siad. "He had just made it back to his office and he was getting ready to talk to his defensive staff."
Wilson said he believes a scholarship offer from the Rebels is forthcoming. That would be good news on two fronts for Wilson, who is likely going to play strong safety at the college level.
"It is, for real, because I've been looking at Ole Miss a lot," Wilson said. "Me and Coach Dickerson have a good relationship. They'd be in the driver's seat. An offer would mean a lot, also, because when I get an offer from them, that means more offers are coming."
So far, Wilson's lone offer has come from South Alabama. However, Mississippi State and Clemson have indicated that they're close to extending scholarship offers as well. Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Arkansas, Kentucky, Southern Illinois, Northern Illinois, UAB, Troy and Southern Mississippi have also been to Davidson practices to scout Wilson and West.
Wilson said Dickerson told him Ole Miss would like Wilson to come to one of the Rebels' camps this summer. Wilson said he's more than a little amenable to that idea. He wants to see the Ole Miss campus, and he believes he could assuage any doubts the Rebels may have with a strong showing.
Wilson and his Davidson teammates wrap up spring drills on Saturday against Daphne and Fairhope in the Foley Jamboree.
