ISU is on the ball with StL back
With four offers in hand, Wentzville (Mo.) Timberland running back Montee Ball is starting to turn his attention toward making his college selection. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Ball has targeted an early to mid-summer time frame for his decision and this week he handicapped Iowa State's chances in the race for his signature.
Ball, accompanied by several fellow state of Missouri prospects, took in Iowa State's Junior Day earlier this spring. It was there he picked up his offer from the Cyclones and first started building rapport with their coaching staff.
"It was a lot better than I thought," Ball said. "The thing I liked best about them was the coaches. When I sat down with the (head) coach he seemed like someone I could get really close to and build a relationship with. The facilities they are building up right now and I liked the environment too. It felt like home."
Besides Iowa State, Ball also holds offers from Missouri, Kansas and Northwestern. Illinois and Vanderbilt are two more schools he said have shown strong interest lately. When deciding between these schools, Ball said the most important factors will be facilities, the environment and the coaching staffs, but he places a premium on the relationship with the coaching staffs at each school.
Ball does not have any other specific visits planned between now and when he makes his decision, but he definitely plans on scheduling some in the near future.
After earning all-conference, all-district and second team all-state honors as a sophomore, Ball came back as a junior and put up huge numbers, amassing 3,077 yards and 32 touchdowns.
