Wegher attends Iowa's junior day

Sioux City Heelan running back Brandon Wegher was among the many visitors at Iowa's junior day today. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Wegher, who the Hawkeyes offered back in February, said he enjoyed the chance to catch up with the coaching staff and watch spring practice.

As a junior, Wegher rushed for 2,334 yards and 34 touchdowns in leading Heelan to the Class 3A state championship game. While he has been to Iowa City several times before, including a junior day earlier this year, this was the first visit since the Hawkeyes named former wide receivers coach Lester Erb as their new running backs coach.

Over the past few months, Wegher has accumulated an impressive list of scholarship offers, including ones from Iowa, Auburn, Penn State, Illinois, Texas Tech, Iowa State, Kansas, and Minnesota, among others. Recently, two more schools added their names to the list as Wisconsin and Arizona offered this past week.

Several other programs remain in close contact with Wegher, including Oklahoma, Missouri, Oregon, and Arkansas. The junior, who may visit Arkansas next week, is still wide open in his recruiting, but hopes to narrow things down by the summer.
