Wilson waiting for offers

MOBILE, Ala. _ Ole Miss is taking a hard look at Mobile (Davidson), Ala., linebacker/safety ,Keiron Wilson.

"He's right on the bubble with them," Davidson coach Fred Riley said. "He ran a 4.48 (40-yard dash) at Alabama's camp last summer and he's up to 190 pounds, but no one's pulled the trigger on him yet. Ole Miss is really the one school showing the most interest."

The 6-foot Wilson played middle linebacker last season at Davidson but he's almost certainly destined for strong safety or weakside outside linebacker at the college level.

"Louisiana Tech called me today wanting to know if I thought he could move outside in a 4-3," Riley said. "He's really mobile and he has great speed."

Wilson said he got a letter earlier this week from Ole Miss assistant Ron Dickerson Jr., asking him to call. Wilson said he tried to call the Rebels' wide receivers coach Thursday but was unable to reach him.

"I don't know too much about Ole Miss," Wilson said. "The program looks good to me. They send players to the NFL."

Wilson attended junior days at Alabama and Auburn and favors the Crimson Tide. He's also interested in Mississippi State, LSU, Arkansas and Marshall.

"Alabama knows him and had him up for their junior day," Riley said. "I think he's going to have to put together a larger portfolio in the first couple of games in the season. All of the Conference USA and Sun Belt Conference teams are waiting to see if he gets SEC offers. He's just going to be close. He's a level-headed kid, a smart kid. I think he'll be open to all comers."

Wilson is expected to qualify academically. He had 84 tackles, 4 sacks and 3 pass break-ups as a junior.

"I'm a leader and a person who works hard in the weight room and works hard on and off the field," Wilson said.
