Watkins: Dual-threat QB in a pro-style body

Quarterback Evan Watkins is listed as a pro-style quarterback by Rivals, but in reality he's more of a dual-threat signal caller. Watkins says that he enjoys running with the ball, something that might surprise a lot of people who look at his 6-foot-6, 230-pound frame and think of a classic drop-back passer.

"A lot of people think I can't run, but I move pretty well for my size," says Watkins.

In fact, Watkins runs a spread offense most of the time at Carol Stream (Ill.) Glenbard North, where he threw for 2,100 yards and 30 touchdowns last year, and also ran for 400 more. That's one of the reasons that he'd feel at home in the spread attack favored by Northwestern.

"Most of the time we're in a shotgun and I'm running and throwing the ball," he explained. "The offense we run is very similar to Northwestern's, so I have experience running that style of offense."
