Skyline defensive back picks up three offers

There is no shortage of talent at Dallas (Texas) Skyline and the University of Minnesota has taken advantage of it. After signing four players off of the Skyline team in the class of 2008, the Golden Gophers are going back to the well for the class of 2009 and have already offered Skyline cornerback Steve Williams.

Williams, who recently attended the Five-Star Academy in Dallas, Texas, will have some familiarity with the Minnesota program, but he will have plenty of other options as well. On Wednesday, Williams held offers from Texas Tech and Minnesota and just a day later, Miami came calling with an offer as well.

"Texas Tech is my favorite right now because they're the first one to offer me," Williams said on Wednesday. "I know the head coach Mike Leach, I talk to them. They don't have too many good DBs so I like that I can come in and play."

Williams talked of his Minnesota offer as well.

"I'd go to Minnesota cause my friends are up there," he said. "It'd be fun to reunite with them."

On Wednesday, Williams said that he thought that Miami would offer him soon. Sure enough, just a day later the Hurricanes gave him the offer he was looking for.

"Miami called my coach and told him they were sending me an offer," he said on Thursday evening. "I follow Miami. They've got a good program. I like Miami. They had Philip Buchanan go there and they've got a good pipeline to the NFL."

While just playing cornerback in 2007, Williams looks to take on a roll in the special teams returning kicks in 2008. He also hopes to win a state championship in his senior year, a goal that is very attainable despite losing several major college prospects from the 2007 squad.
