Auburn rebuilding at d-tackle

Don Dunn will have some holes to fill when spring practice gets underway Sunday afternoon.

Gone are both of Auburn's starting defensive tackles from last season including Josh Thompson, who led AU with 66 tackles, and Pat Sims, who elected to skip his senior season to enter the 2008 NFL Draft.

Returning from last year will be junior Jake Ricks, and sophomores Zach Clayton and Mike Blanc. None of them has ever started a college game.

"We've got a lot of work to be done in 15 practices," said Dunn. "They're all very capable but they're young and inexperienced. Going into the spring we've got a lot of questions to be answered."

Fortunately for Dunn, it appears likely he'll have some experienced help moving over from defensive end. Junior Sen'Derrick Marks started 13 games at d-tackle in 2006 before moving to strongside end for the 2007 season.
