Hawkeyes offer in-state RB
The Iowa Hawkeyes are not wasting anytime in getting started on the Class of 2009. Today, the Iowa coaching staff extended their second in-state scholarship offer in as many days and fourth overall in the state, as they contacted running back Brandon Wegher of Sioux City Heelan.
As a junior, Wegher earned first team all-state honors after finishing with 2,334 yards rushing and 34 touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 187-pound running back, who attended Iowa's junior day last month, was in Kinnick Stadium this past season to watch the Hawkeyes beat Illinois.
The Iowa offer is Wegher's second from a Big Ten program this week, as he picked one up from Penn State on a visit to Happy Valley on Monday. The running back, who led his team to the state championship game last season, enjoyed his time in Pennsylvania.
Along with Iowa and Penn State, Wegher also holds scholarship offers from Iowa State, San Diego State, Wyoming, and South Dakota State, where his father played. Next up could be the Kansas Jayhawks.
A number of other schools throughout the country remain in close contact, including Oklahoma, Arizona, Clemson, Auburn, and several others.
