UGA's first to offer South GA safety
Talented prospects in South Georgia slip through the cracks from time to time, but one of the top defensive backs in the state has already been found early in 2008. Class of 2009 safety Shawn Williams has started to get attention from many major programs across the south and has picked up offer number one.
"Georgia came down to my school a couple of weeks ago and they offered me a scholarship," said Williams. "They told my coach that they were offering me and my coach told me."
It was offer number one for the 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety out of Blakely (Ga.) - Early County, but it was not a total surprise.
"I kind of saw this coming because they had been recruiting me hard and sending me a lot of letter. They started showing interest in me last year and they invited me to a couple of games."
The Georgia offer was verbal at first, but it became official a couple of days later.
"Coach [Mike] Bobo and Coach [Willie] Martinez came down to my school to talk to my coach about me and that is when they told him about the offer. Then, Coach Wolfe (Early County Head Coach) got the written offer and he gave it to me. I did not know about it at first until the written offer got there."
