Auburn offers top 2009 linebacker

There's no question that one of the top priorities for Auburn's 2009 recruiting class will be the linebacker position. Fortunately for the Tigers there are already several top prospects on the radar including Columbus (Ga.) Carver standout Jarvis Jones.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Jones was named to the initial 2009 Rivals100 and is rated a four-star and the nation's No. 15 overall prospect.

"It's a great accomplishment," said Jones. "I had a good season and the coaches are showing a lot of interest in me. I know I still have to work hard to get better."

Jones racked up 144 tackles last fall helping Carver to the Class AAA state championship.

"I'm very vocal on the field," said Jones. "I try to get my players up when they're down. I go full speed every play in the game and at practice. I'm just wide open out there.

"I love to hit. Every play I try to hit somebody. That's what you do at linebacker."

Jones watched first-hand as both quarterback DeRon Furr (Auburn signee) and wide receiver Jarmon Fortson (Florida State signee) went through the recruiting process this past year.

He said he's already learned a lot about the process.
