Ole Miss hosts Georgia DE

Ole Miss hosted eight prospects over the weekend and Ellenwood, Ga. defensive end prospect Gerald Rivers left mulling over an offer from Rebel head football coach Houston Nutt.

"I was a great trip," Rivers said on Sunday afternoon after returning home. "I really enjoyed it.

The 6-foot-5, 240 pound prospect now has a difficult task of sorting through a long offer sheet.

"I'm just trying to find out where's the best place for me," Rivers said. "My mom couldn't make the trip because she's a nurse and has to work weekends. Coach Nutt and coach (Tracy) Rocker will be down on Thursday to meet mom."

Rivers offer sheet includes Arkansas, Kentucky, Marshall, and Middle Tennenssee State. He also picked up an offer from North Carolina last Thursday and will visit there next weekend.

He has already made trips to Kentucky and Ole Miss, but cancelled a visit to MTSU last weekend.

Rivers, who was hosted by defensive end Kentrell Lockett, got the grand tour while in Oxford.

"They showed us the academic center, the stadium, the locker rooms and the town," Rivers said. "It's real small, but everything is right there.

"They also showed us the Walk of Champions and took us over to the Lycem and explained the history behind the first Black who enrolled at Ole Miss," Rivers said. "They have a monument to him (James Merideth) that recognizes his courge to make change. I really appreciated that."

Despite Rivers being impressed with Ole Miss, he doesn't appear close to making a decision.

"Right now, my plan is to visit North Carolina and then see I like it up there," Rivers said. "I don't have a timeframe or a top three (list of schools) or anything."

Rivers recorded 81 tackles, nine sacks and two forced fumbles this season for Cedar Grove. Even more impressive, using his height, Rivers was able to get 10 pass breakups. Speed is also a tool Rivers uses, having clocked a personal best of 4.56 in the forty.

Rivers said he is already qualified academically with a 1270 on the ACT and a 2.6 GPA.

He recently played in the Georiga all-star game.
