King's Iowa St. trip longer than planned

Offensive tackle prospect Joe King had a great official visit to Iowa State this weekend but unfortunately, the trip will last a day longer than planned. The 6-foot-6, 305-pound King is getting a bonus night in Ames due to a winter storm that has messed up airline schedules throughout the middle of the country.

The weather in Iowa was fine on Sunday but not so much to the east and south. And that is what has King marooned for a night.

"I'm stuck because of the weather so they are putting me up in the hotel again," King said. "The plane from Chicago was delayed. By the time it would have gotten in and I could have gotten out, I could get to Dallas but no farther. So it was either be stuck there for a night or stay here. It's supposed to be pretty bad where I am from tomorrow, too, but hopefully I can make it back."

Where King is from is Oklahoma City, where he was a standout lineman for Putnam City North High School. His play at PCN earned him a three-star rating from Rivals.com in addition to being ranked as the no. 13 prospect overall in the state of Oklahoma for 2008. Iowa State was the first to offer him a scholarship and Texas Tech has since followed.
