White adjusting well

Aron White laughs remembering his first few weeks in Athens. It took some adjusting to the culture that is the Deep South.

"It took me a little while to get the accents down," said White, one of Georgia's 2007 signees currently redshirting for the Bulldogs. "I like it down here, though."

He's also excited about his current role.

Signed out of Rock Bridge High in Columbia, Mo. as a wide receiver/tight end, White said recently that he's now strictly a tight end and has been working solely at the position for most of the season.

"That's where they've got me, and I enjoy it," said White, rated as the nation's top tight end by "I had a lot to learn as far as the system goes, but having the opportunity to redshirt has really helped me where I think I'll be ready to help out next year."

At 6-4 and 215 pounds when he signed last February, White has his weight up to 225 pounds and still hopes to add a bit more before next year.

White laughed that he's needed all the extra weight he can get.

"It hasn't been easy having to go against those big guys on the defensive line," White said. "That's probably been the biggest adjustment.

"I've had to get stronger, but the work I've put in the weight room has made a big difference. I just need to keep getting better."

A high school teammate of fellow Bulldog freshman Logan Gray, White helped lead Rock Bridge to a 9-1 record his senior season, while his 17 career touchdown receptions set a new school record.

As a junior, White had 36 catches for 621 yards and 11 touchdowns, followed by a senior year which saw him grab 23 passes for 430 yards and six scores.

Georgia beat out White's hometown school Missouri, among others, for his services.

"People ask me all the time why I didn't sign with Missouri, and this year a lot of people back home were really giving me some grief," White said. "They've had a really good year, but I made the right decision. I've been very happy here."
