After winning a state championship and rewriting the record books, Keokuk teammates James Vandenberg and James Hurt are now focusing on where they will play college football. On Thursday, the two players each received an in-home visit from Iowa in-state recruiter Reese Morgan.
The 6-foot-2, 176-pound Vandenberg picked up a scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes earlier this month, along with one from Nebraska. As a senior, the quarterback set just about every passing record in the state of Iowa, completing 69.9% of his passes for 3,729 yards and 49 touchdowns.
While Vandenberg was racking up career passing records with 7,677 yards and 93 touchdowns over his three-year career, his top receiver has been all-state performer James Hurt. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Hurt is steadily receiving more recruiting interest this month, including contact from Iowa, Western Illinois, and UNI, among others.
