A&M suffers class of 2008 recruiting casualty

Coaching changes often bring casualties to recruiting classes. The uncertainty that a new hire brings to the perspective of a high school senior is often enough to make them look around.

Despite the continued solidarity of the vast majority of its commits in its 2008 recruiting class during a tumultuous 2007 football season, Texas A&M has proved to be no exception to this rule.

Wichita Falls Rider safety Markelle Martin had been committed to the Aggies since the spring and was slated to enroll in January. Martin was recruited by his position coach, Bill Clay. He had even told Rider head coach Scott Ponder to tell schools that he was done with the recruiting process.

However, the continued uncertainty surrounding former A&M head coach Dennis Franchione and his staff became too much for Martin approximately a month ago.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound four-star prospect had committed to Texas A&M last spring.
