Rebels open season with Miss. Valley St.

This time it's for real.

The Ole Miss men's basketball team opens its 2007-08 schedule Saturday at Tad Smith Coliseum, when head coach Andy Kennedy and the Rebels host Mississippi Valley State at 2 p.m.

The Rebels have used a big chunk of the preseason trying acclimate a slew of new faces, especially in the backcourt.

Freshman guard Chris Warren said the team's coming together.

"We've got a good little vibe, but more chemistry still needs to develop," Warren said. "We're working on it."

Ole Miss won its only exhibition contest, downing Delta State 110-65. Six players scored in double figures for the Rebels, led by sophomore guard David Heurtas' 18.

The Rebels could be without senior forward Kenny Williams, who Kennedy elected not to dress in the Rebels' exhibition win. Kennedy said no decision has been made on Williams' status.
