ASU proves it's for real by beating No. 18 Cal

The No. 4 Arizona State football team will no longer be nationally considered as college football's version of a Tempurpedic mattress.

After an impressive 31-20 win over the visiting No. 21 Cal Golden Bears last night, no one should be sleeping on the Sun Devils.

Putting some of the major issues from the game aside, here is an assessment of some of the important themes and events.

In a game of such magnitude, the pre-game atmosphere in Sun Devil Stadium was electric. We'd like to give props to the ASU marketing department for their video montages before the team's introduction, but the splashes of the Superdome (site of this year's national championship game) might have been pre-mature and possibly could have jinxed the Sun Devils before the game even started.

In all seriousness, playing each game under the lights of Sun Devil Stadium has been a great benefit; it really promotes a big-game atmosphere, and certainly doesn't hurt when the weather is great and a dozen or more recruits are in attendance.
