Callender leads the way

EA's Nick Balk breaks down the positional grades from BC's 27-14 win over Notre Dame last weekend. As usual, BC running back Andre Callender came away with high grades thanks to another excellent all-around effort.

Quarterback: B+

Matt Ryan was not as sharp as he was against Georgia Tech and Bowling Green, but it was a pretty good performance, overall. His 291 yards came on thirty-two completions and forty-nine attempts, as he was forced by the Fighting French defense to throw mostly short passes instead of long bombs. The Pick-6 he threw was the only major blemish. It will be vital to the Eagles' success that he avoids any catastrophic miscues against Virginia Tech, because BC likely will not have the cushion that they did against Notre Dame. Virginia Tech will try to shorten the game and hope that their opportunistic defense and special teams will come up with some points, and it will be largely up to Ryan and punter Johnny Ayers to prevent this from happening. Ryan's leadership and intellect have been among his strongest attributes so far this year, and Eagle fans can only assume that he will be prepared for the hostile environment, both on the field and in the stands, that will await him in Blacksburg, Virginia.
