Mangino impressed with Cesar's play

Cesar Rodriguez has seen all there is to see during his time in Lawrence. The 6-foot-7, 290-pound offensive tackle from La Puente, Calif., has his fair share of ups and downs. However, after a frustrating junior season on the football field, Rodriguez is having the time of his life with his fellow offensive lineman.

If you saw a picture of Rodriguez when he first came into the program in 2003, you might not recognize him. Rodriguez, who currently weighs around 290 pounds, came to Lawrence as a "skinny" 225 pounds.

The change in weight has been a result of Rodriguez's metabolism slowing down, KU's strength and conditioning program, and even the West Coast Saloon's Sunday special of 2 for 1 hamburgers. A stop the offensive line frequents.

Whatever the reason for Cesar's weight gain, the coaches are pleased with Rodriguez's progress in his final season at KU.

"He has played a lot of snaps here and so far I think he is off to his best start of any season he has had here," said Mark Mangino. "His footwork is a lot better, he is stronger than he has ever been and he is playing with a lot of intensity."
