Video: Smith, Burrell vs. Cass Tech
DETROIT, MI- Detroit Cass Tech (2-4) needed an interception by Michigan recruit Boubacar Cissoko with :37 seconds remaining in the game to spoil Detroit Southeastern's(3-3) homecoming with a 13-7 victory last Friday.
The game not only spoiled homecoming but has put Southeastern playoff hopes in serious jeopardy.
Southeastern took an early 7-0 lead on a touchdown pass by Michigan State recruit Charles Burrell to William Sturges Jr. who was covered by Boubacar Cissoko.
At halftime, Cass Tech coach Thomas Wilcher told his team that they had to go back to the basics. "We needed to go back to bread and butter plays and pound the ball" said Coach Wilcher. The team responded with a ball control game in the second half scoring twice on two running plays for touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Throughout the game Cissoko did not cover Southeastern receiver and Michigan State recruit Fred Smith until the final drive which ended in a Cissoko interception. "I had to make up for my earlier mistake and make a big play" said Cissoko.
Southeastern must win next week on the road tonight at undefeated Detroit Martin Luther King(6-0) and hope for some assistance in order to make the playoffs.
"We really needed this game. I can't believe we let it slip away" said Southeastern Coach Doshell English.
