Saturday's P.M. Practice Insider: Freshman fling

If Broderick Green wants to be USC's bruiser, the opportunity seems to be there for him.

After sitting out Saturday morning's practice, the 230-pound freshman received more carries than any other tailback in the afternoon's higher-intensity, full-pads session. Dressed only in shoulder pads and shorts, a result of missing the first two practices, Green did not break many long runs, but the Trojans' biggest tailback showed his willingness to rush into a crowd.

"Since the time we first started talking to him, it was two years ago, and we wanted him to fit the role of the guy that could hammer the football, be a guy inside the 20-yard line and go from there," coach Pete Carroll said. "We haven't seen him full-speed yet, so we can't tell. But he's shown some glimpses of the kind of body lean that a big back runs with that makes him effective."
