Four-star lineman has a plan
Concord (N.C.) Robinson four-star offensive lineman R.J. Mattes, the No.9 overall prospect in the Tar Heel State's class of 2008, has narrowed his list to five lucky schools.
"It's down to South Carolina, Clemson, NC State, Virginia and North Carolina," the 6-foot-6, 260-pound Mattes said. "I wanted to stay close to home, and all those schools are relatively close."
Mattes, who runs the 40-yard dash in 5.1 seconds, offered a glimpse into why else South Carolina made the cut.
"Steve Spurrier is a great coach, and I feel like their program is on the rise," he said. "They're only going to get better and better under Spurrier, and he's going to turn them into a national program. I went down to their camp over the summer, and I liked working with coach (John) Hunt, their offensive line coach."
