Is this the year?

It is the question Missouri fans have been asking for more than two decades now. Is this the year the Tigers finally turn the corner?

The media certainly thinks so. Twenty-four reporters that cover the Big 12 picked Mizzou to represent the North division in the league championship game by a 2-to-1 margin over Nebraska.

"I think maybe we're gaining a little bit of respect," Gary Pinkel said as the Tigers took center stage on the second day of Big 12 media days in San Antonio.

The Tigers have been in this position before…almost exactly. Coming off an 8-and-5 season and a bowl loss, Missouri went into the 2004 campaign led by one of the nation's top returning quarterbacks and was picked to finish second in the Big 12 North, as highly as the team had been picked until this year. The Tigers limped to a 5-and-6 finish that included a five-game losing streak during conference play.
