Academics resolved, Ingram looks to future

Melvin Ingram has been anointed by some as the heir apparent to Jasper Brinkley at middle linebacker for South Carolina.

While replacing Brinkley, a senior and preseason All-SEC and Nagurski Trophy candidate, won't be easy for the Richmond County High School (Hamlet, N.C.) product, it shouldn't be any less stressful than what Ingram experienced recently while waiting to be admitted into USC.

After a few anxious days, Ingram was finally admitted into the university and approved by the NCAA Clearinghouse on July 12. Upon receiving the good news, Ingram arrived at USC for the start of classes for the second semester of summer school.

Ingram prepared himself for the summer workout grind with his own daily workouts at his home near Rockingham. N.C. While unseating Brinkley is unlikely, Ingram hopes to earn playing time in 2007.

"I'm looking to play at inside linebacker," Ingram said. "I just want to come in and work hard."
