Redshirt Freshmen ready to play in '07

While several members of the 2006 freshman class saw extensive action in their first season on campus, several of their highly touted classmates did not play for one reason or another but appear ready to contribute this season. In fact, some of the redshirt freshmen could play major roles in the success of the 2007 Gamecocks. In today's column, we profile five redshirt freshmen that we believe will play a major role in the upcoming season.
It was believed that one of the players that would make an immediate impact last season was offensive guard Kevin Young. The 6-foot-5, 320-pound trenchman arrived in Columbia last summer with the credentials to make an immediate impact. With scholarship offers from FSU, Florida, and Miami, and a four-star rating by Rivals.com, Young expected to compete for playing time at one of the guard positions. However, a partially torn labrum in his shoulder forced the Florida-California All-Star Game participant to miss the entire season following surgery to repair the injury.
