Kentucky All-Stars top Tennessee 38-24
LEXINGTON, Ky. - For one night only, future college rivals came together in the name of state pride to lead Kentucky over Tennessee 38-24 Friday in the annual summer all-star classic.
Future West Virginia Mountaineer Keith Tandy teamed with soon-to-be Louisville Cardinals Doug Beaumont and Victor Anderson to give the Bluegrass State all-stars a dynamic backfield that could not be contained.
Tandy, a versatile athlete who played quarterback in this game, earned MVP honors by completing 8 of 11 passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 55 yards on five carries.
"West Virginia may want to reconsider after the way that kid played tonight," said Kentucky all-stars coach Joey Downs of Bardstown High School. "I know they want him as a defensive back, but he can do a lot at quarterback. He can hurt you with the run or the pass when he gets out on the edge."
Beaumont, who wore jersey No. 1 as Kentucky's "Mr. Football" selection, lived up to the standard, rushing for 90 yards on 11 carries and catching five passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. Anderson added 57 yards on nine carries and scored on runs of 1, 23 and 2 yards.
