Harden hits the ground running

One of the many offensive linemen that the Georgia Bulldogs are welcoming to campus for the 2007 season, Ben Harden took the long road to Athens. He signed with the team in 2006, but then spent a year in prep school. Now, he is on campus, taking classes, and eager to hit the practice field.

Currently weighing about 320 pounds, the big man from Perry, Ga., says that he would like to get down to 300-305 by the start of fall camp. He is being told that he will get a look at both guard and center, and that if everything goes right he will see playing time this fall.

Here is a quick look back and Harden's past two years and the path he took to Athens.

As a junior, Harden was already drawing interest from major college programs, most notably Georgia and Florida. When UGASports first interviewed him in March of 2005, he listed the Bulldogs and Gators along with Miami, Tennessee, and Texas as his favorites.

UGA tight end coach David Johnson was recruiting him for the Dawgs, and when he called on April 5th to let him know that coach Mark Richt had approved a scholarship offer for the big man from Perry, it came as a surprise.
