Spring has been important

Some people may feel that spring practice is not important because the incoming freshmen have yet to reach campus. Being in the situation that Stanford is in, that may hold true.

As we know by now, there is an open competition at every position and considering that some of the likely best players at those positions are not yet on campus, it is difficult to truly take away too much from the spring session.

With that being said, spring has been important for numerous reasons, most of which involve evaluation. The spring practices allow the new coaching staff to evaluate the talent that it has and also begin to implement the new offense.

As Harbaugh said after Tuesday's practice, "We dug deeper into our repertoire. We had a lot of new schemes and new plays and we're a bit slower than we'd like, but, we're learning."

In terms of spring performances, T.C. Ostrander has the starting job wrapped up.
