Pullman Practice Report - Day 14
This marks the last practice of the spring before the annual Crimson and Gray game on Saturday and the WSU football team was putting together the finishing touches to prepare for the scrimmage.
Ian Bell and Michael Willis were in pads for the first time this spring, Bell playing full contact and Willis in a yellow jersey. Quarterback Kevin Lopina returned to pads and Charles Dillon rid himself of the cautionary yellow jersey. However, defensive end Lance Broadus and wide receivers Keith Rosenberg and Benny Ward, who had been practicing all spring long, missed practice.
Even without Rosenberg and Ward, the WSU passing game was firing on all cylinders. With four quarterbacks, a variety of receivers saw action and registered highlights on Thursday.
Walk-on receivers Jared Bjerkestrand and Matt Sledge both hauled in deep passes over safety Tali Talakai on two different plays. Junior-to-be receiver Brandon Gibson caught pass after pass on the day, something that has been a very common occurrence this spring.
One minor setback for the passing game was a Christian Bass interception thrown by Alex Brink that was intended for Michael Bumpus over the middle. The interception was Bass' first of the spring and pumped up his defensive teammates.
