Redshirt report: Several Tigers show promise
It is not a word any high school senior really thinks will apply to him: Redshirt. But the reality is the vast majority of incoming freshmen do not play during their first year on campus. And at this time of year, the focus often turns to the players that will have their first chance to make an impact next season.
Which redshirt players will make an impact next season is a long way from being determined. But a few names tend to pop up throughout the year that get a little more ink than others. Here are three that have made some waves for Mizzou:
For Jeremy Maclin, this was not supposed to be a redshirt season. Easily the most heralded recruit in the Class of 2006, Maclin was drawing rave reviews in summer drills before tearing his ACL. He spent all of fall camp and the first month-and-a-half of the season on the sideline watching.
"I learned all the plays, I learned how to run a route, how to run against certain coverages," Maclin said. "I learned a lot from the older guys just watching. It was a great humbling experience."
