In-State OL commits to Spartans

SpartanMag.com has been impressed with offensive line prospect Joel Foreman since we saw him dominate at the Michigan State summer camp. New Spartan Head Coach Mark Dantonio and his staff knew all about Foreman while at Cincinnati and today he decided to join them as a member of the Green and White.

We spoke with Foreman about his official visit to East Lansing this weekend.

"It went really well. Everything was great. I met with Coach Dantonio this morning and when he offered me a scholarship, I committed. I told Coach Dantonio that Michigan State is the place I want to be and it is a perfect fit. I really like the coaches; Coach Dantonio and Coach Roushar, I can't wait to play for them."

Foreman went on to tell us that the Michigan State staff was very excited that he decided to become a Spartan, and they are looking forward to having him on campus competing for a spot.

Foreman was hosted by offensive center John Masters while on his official visit.

"I really liked him. He was very helpful. We spent time talking about things at Michigan State, and he answered all my questions. He introduced me to some of the other offensive linemen. They are good guys. They like to work hard, but they also like to have fun."

Foreman indicated that he plans on studying Criminal Justice while at Michigan State.

We saw Foreman perform at the NIKE and Michigan State summer camp. We know he did 17 reps on the bench press last spring in Columbus. We asked him about some current weight lifting numbers.

"My max bench press right now is around 355-pounds and my max squat is currently 525-pounds."

Those type of numbers are one of the reasons why Foreman was such a bear of a player this fall for Milford High School.

Foreman got a chance to smash heads several times with fellow future Spartans Ryan Wheat and George White when Milford met Carman-Ainsworth in the playoffs. Foreman talked about the game, which Milford won by a lopsided score of 45-9, and attended by then Cincinnati Head Coach Mark Dantonio

"Yes, those guys are good players. We beat them in the district championship game. I am looking forward to playing with them in college rather than against them."

SpartanMag.com is working on getting some video clips of Foreman uploaded in the near future. Click the link to read an update we did of Foreman two days ago where we talk about the honors he received this year and who he reminds us of as far as past Spartan linemen.
