Carlson keeps up breakout pace

Competition looks good on John Carlson.

Notre Dame's emerging star of a tight end gets plenty of it while wearing shoulder pads considering his team-high eight catches for 91 yards and a touchdown against North Carolina in 45-26 win.

With 45 grabs for 620 yards and three scores this season, the senior from Litchfield, Minn., leads the nation in receiving yardage for tight ends. If he keeps up his pace, Carlson will eclipse three-time All-American Ken MacAfee for the most productive season by a Notre Dame tight end in school history.
