Clay out of the blue

Little Rock, Ark., Central tailback Charles Clay, 6-foot-4, 213 pounds, 4.6 seconds in the 40-yard dash, is having a banner senior season playing a new position.

Clay, the son of the former Arkansas tight end by the same name, moved to tailback this season and has Central breaking fast out of the gate and contending for yet another state championship. The younger Clay entered the season a virtual unknown, but he is moving up on the recruiting charts and has been attracting a lot of attention from Arkansas assistant coach Danny Nutt, who recruits Pulaski County for the Razorbacks.
