Notebook: Lester to start at tailback

With Kenny Irons nursing a sprained ankle and sprained toe, sophomore Brad Lester will start at tailback for Auburn against Buffalo Saturday.

It will be the second career start for the Lilburn, Ga., native.

"He's done a fine job in whatever we've asked him to do," said AU offensive coordinator Al Borges of Lester. "We would have liked to get him a little more work last week, but the situation never dictated we really could. I think you'll find if you give him enough opportunities, something good's going to happen."

Lester has rushed for 77 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries this season. He's also caught four passes for 46 yards and a touchdown.

Irons did not practice Thursday but will dress out for the game.

"He'll be dressed and available but it doesn't look like he will be 100 percent," said AU head coach Tommy Tuberville.

Quarterback Brandon Cox, who's practiced through a sprained knee and ankle this week, is expected to start Saturday.

"Brandon took all the snaps with the ones. He's ready to go," said Tuberville.
