Gioia gets quick redemption

To measure the level of over-analysis heaped on Carl Gioia this week, consider the question asked of teammate and holder Jeff Samardzija after Notre Dame's 41-17 rout of Penn State. Not only did inquiring minds what to pick apart Gioia's mental makeup in the wake of two misses a week earlier at Georgia Tech, they wanted Samardzija to take a tape measure to the kicker's Saturday makes against the Nittany Lions.


So exactly how true was Gioia's opening field that staked Notre Dame to a 3-0 advantage early in the first quarter?
