Winchendon is loaded
Start with a top-notch point guard, add multiple wing players who fit into the system and throw in two 2009 UConn commits and Winchendon (Mass.) School becomes arguably the top prep team in New England and one of the best in the country.
Coach Mike Byrnes has put together a talented cast this season starting with 6-foot-1 point guard Malcolm Grant, originally from Brooklyn (N.Y.) Robeson, who committed to Villanova and will spend a season at Winchendon.
Alex Oriakhi, a 6-foot-8 power forward in the 2009 class, played at the Brooks School as a freshman and is rated the 15th-best player in his class by Rivals.com. Oriakhi was one of the top young players earlier this year at the Nike Hoop Jamboree. He and Jamal Coombs, a crafty, 6-foot-6 shooting guard/small forward who impressed at the New England Elite 75 Showcase, are both at Winchendon this season. Both have already committed to UConn.
