Rhode's Report

The low-voiced, discordant bark of several coaches simultaneously shouting during drills; the echoing thud of tackle dummies being reconfigured repeatedly by 300-pounders every few seconds; the joyful chatter of young receivers cheering for each other on route after route; the familiar yet always alarming air horn blasts that signal the end of one period and preparations for the next;

These are just some of the sweet sounds within Memorial Stadium as the preseason No. 9-ranked California Golden Bears prepare for a tough test against the Tennessee Volunteers in their season opener less than two weeks away.
