Smith goes from walk-on to first-team

In 2004, Rod Smith made one of the most important catches of his life.

He didn't score a touchdown, didn't even get credit for a first down. But the catch was good enough for him to earn a spot on Auburn's practice team as a walk-on.

"I can remember the first day I came out here. I made a good catch and (offensive coordinator) Al Borges said I made the team," remembers Smith. "I made a diving catch and he said, 'Congratulations, you're on the team son.'"
