Rey, Rey on Wednesday

USC's first scrimmage gave the Trojans' defense its first test since a disappointing performance in last year's Rose Bowl against the Texas Longhorns.

Looking to rebound in 2006, the Trojans' defense didn't make the best of first impressions Wednesday. Allowing freshman running back Stafon Johnson to rush for 119 yards, Rey Maualuga discussed the scrimmage.

At schools across the nation, defense tends to dominate the early stages of fall camp. While that was the case with USC last week, the Trojans' first team scrimmage was too offensive for inside linebacker Maualuga, who started in Wednesday's contest.
