Evridge must find his future elsewhere

The Kansas State football coaches and players converged on the Vanier Football Complex last Friday for the start of fall drills and the program's Media Day. Everyone was all smiles.

Everyone was smiling with the exception of the undercurrent tugging at one position on the K-State roster.

Allan Evridge made his usual media room appearance. But the usually guarded Evridge was even more guarded with his words.

In hindsight it's clear why Evridge was coy with his answers to two questions.

When asked about his standing in the quarterback race, Evridge responded with, "To be honest with you, I'd rather not comment on that right now."

So, he was asked, what does he need to do to be the starter. "That's a tough one. It's really not up to me. It's in the coaches' hands to make that decision."

We now know more. Evridge was greeted with a surprise when he reported for duty.

The new internal depth chart, the one not discussed by Coach Ron Prince and his coaching staff, showed Evridge now at three behind Meier and super-freshman Josh Freeman.
