Q&A with Steven Threet

July has been a whirlwind month for Georgia Tech recruiting with a whopping eight commitments and the one that started it all was Steven Threet. The quarterback from Adrian, Mich. chose the Yellow Jackets over schools such as NC State, Wisconsin, Indiana and Illinois. Threet, who will enroll at Tech in January, spoke in-depth about his decision to attend Tech.

I know you always said you wanted to make a commitment in July and then you went out of town for a few days. Did that give you time to think things over and come up with a decision?

"I thought about things while I was gone and I got a chance to talk to my family about it. Our whole family went up there and I got their feelings on things. It was a good chance to get away though. I didn't have any service on my cell phone, not that I was dodging anybody, but to kind of get away from the recruiting was good. I got to come to the decision that I wanted to be a Yellow Jacket."

How did you make contact with the Georgia Tech coaches to tell them about it?

"Actually I called from my grandma's house. I got the numbers off of my cell phone and called them. I had at most one bar of service. I was breaking up quite a bit when I called them and told them, but it was good enough for them to hear me."
