Sun Devils lead for JUCO defensive lineman
William Tukuafu is one of the more intriguing junior college prospects in Arizona. After playing last season at Scottsdale, Tukuafu picked up a number of scholarship offers, and as a result, he decided to focus on the completion of his Associate Degree and not play a second season at the JUCO level.
"Because I had the offers I just decided I wanted to sit out this season so I can have three years wherever I go," Tukuafu said. "I think it will be better for me in the long run if I do that."
After graduating from high school in Utah in 2002, the 6-foot-5, 275 pound Tukuafu said he worked for a year before embarking on a LDS church mission. Having spent three years away from football, Tukuafu was encouraged by how quickly he regained his skills at Scottsdale, and it led him to the belief that sitting out an additional year will not harm his development.
"I don't think conditioning is going to be a problem for me because even after didn't play for those three years I came back and still did pretty good," he said. I think I still know what I need to do off the field in order to be ready."
