LB gets FSU offer, on verge of commitment
With an early commitment from former signee Dan Foster, and with FSU in the lead for Jacksonville native Brandon Hicks, you might think that would be it for the linebacker position. However, after a strong performance earlier this week at FSU's Football Camp, South Sumter linebacker Kendall Smith finally got the news he has been waiting for.
"I got offered, I got a free ride to come up there," Smith told Warchant.com. "I was all excited and I didn't really know what to say... They only offered one other linebacker in the state so I have to be pretty special for them to offer me a full ride."
Since college coaches can't call recruits this time of year, FSU linebacker coach Kevin Steele got the good news to Smith through one of his teachers, Donna Hooten. The three-star linebacker quickly returned the call to get confirmation that his childhood favorite team had really offered a scholarship.
Other schools that have previously extended offers include Alabama, Tennessee, Iowa State, UCF and USF.
