Football summer workouts get extra sizzle

Summertime football workouts are usually held in relative solitude, but for the University of Louisville football players who participated in voluntary drills Thursday afternoon, there was some extra energy in the air.

After visting briefly with Cards' head coach Bobby Petrino, ESPN commentator Kirk Herbstreit and a crew from the network watched about a half-hour of the workout as they did a bit of preseason homework on the Cards who will be featured frequently this season on ESPN and ESPN2.

Herbstreit & Co. saw some sharp passing drills that featured quarterbacks Brian Brohm and Hunter Cantwell. Brohm, who continues to recover from knee surgery, participated fully in the drills.

"I'm doing everything now," Brohm, the former Trinity High School star, told reporters. "I'm running full speed, cutting, throwing on bootlegs, the whole thing. I feel great. Some days I'm 100 percent. Other days I'm 95 percent. But when we test my injured leg, sometimes it's actually stronger than the other one."

Running back Michael Bush participated in the workouts, too, and Brohm praised his teammate for his work ethic and productivity.
