NIKE Camp Notebook: Reunion for USF coaches
It was the final day college coaches were allowed to evaluate prospects, so that made Saturday's NIKE Camp at the University of Florida a common destination for schools from around the country.
Prior to the opening of the camp, coaches stood three and four deep along a 20-yard section of the sideline, swapping handshakes and back slaps. There was a definite USF flavor to be found. The Bulls were represented at the event by offensive line coach Greg Frey, tight ends coach Greg Gregory and new defensive backs coach Troy Douglas. And that wasn't all. Sporting colors from new schools were long-time USF assistants Earl Lane and Rick Kravitz, and former Bulls player Ryan Hearn.
Lane, now the defensive line coach at LSU, said he is one of three Tigers coaches assigned to Florida, although he's taking on new territory in the Sunshine State. At USF, Lane's recruiting territory included primarily Tampa and parts of Broward/Dade counties. For LSU, he covers the area from Belle Glade north to Ocala and east across the state.
