Can AU land another Alex City standout?

With Alexander City, Ala., Benjamin Russell High School approximately 40 miles up Highway 280 from Auburn, it's understandable that the Tigers have at least a minute advantage recruiting Wildcat standouts.

However, nothing has come easy for Auburn in Alex City.

In the last four years, the Tigers have signed three Benjamin Russell alums including defensive end Marquies Gunn and safety Eric Brock in 2003, and most recently tight end Michael Goggans in the '06 class. But Auburn didn't do so without a big fight with in-state and out-of-state schools.

This past year Goggans committed early to Tennessee, and favored Alabama over Auburn up until the last few weeks of the recruiting process. It wasn't until an official visit to the Plains in mid-January did Goggans make up his mind to sign with Auburn.
