Richt wants to narrow QB race

Every time that Georgia head coach Mark Richt has been pressed about the potential starting quarterback for the Bulldogs, he's shown more silence than a submarine commander on full alert. But Tuesday afternoon, he hinted that he'd like to narrow the four-way race down to two quarterbacks by Aug. 20, eight practices before the Sept. 2 season-opener against Western Kentucky.

Senior Joe Tereshinski is still expected to be the No. 1 quarterback when preseason camp kicks off in early August ahead of true freshman Matthew Stafford, redshirt freshman Joe Cox and sophomore Blake Barnes.

"We're still trying to figure out who the quarterback's going to be," Richt said. "Right now, Joe T. will be the first guy rolling in as the number one guy in the fall. I'd say about eight practices out of our first ball game; we'd have to have it narrowed down to at least two."

Due to playing in golf tournaments and numerous stops on the off-season speaking circuit for various Bulldog clubs and other groups, Richt has yet to get a closer look at a lot of film from spring practice.
